dc.description.abstract | Purpose: We investigated the effects of 1 % and 2 % Carteolol ophthalmic solution in volunteers. Methods. We arranged two groups. ?here were 7 women and 9 men in the first group, 7 women and 8 men in the second group. Results:Mean age of first group was,24.19 years and the second nas 22.33 years. We applied 1 % Carteolol ophthalmic solution to right eyes of first group and 2 % Carteolol to the right eyes of the second group. We applied artificial tears to all left eyes as plasebo. We measured intra ocular pressure (IOP) at 1, 4, 8 and 24 hours by applanation tonometer. We compared the results of Carteolol with plasebo. We detected maximum decreased intraocular pressure at fourth hours after instillation both 1 % and 2 % Carteolol ophthalmic solution. The mean value of IOP before instillation for 1 % Carteolol was 14.31 +/- 2.68 mmHg,and for 2% Carteolol nas 14.20 +/- 3.75 mmHg, and after instillation 1 % Carteolol was 9.38 +/- 3.12 mmHg, 2% Carteolol was 8.53 +/- 2.36 mmHg at fourth hours. The maximum reduction of IOP with 1 % Carteolol was 4.93 mmHg, and 4.4 mmHg with 2 % Carteolol. Decrease of intraocular pressure was statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: From our study it would appear that Carteolol 1 % and 2 % has a significant effect on intraocular pressure in volunteers, and there was no difference in hypotensive effects between 1 % and 2 % concentrations. | en_US |
