Currently, the introduction of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has raised some concerns and the planting areas of these organisms continue to expand every year. In recent years, it is forbidden to cultivate food and feeds produced with genetic engineering technology in Turkey. Transgenic products that have come to Turkey through imports have taken their place in the markets through various inspections and their sales continue. Biodiversity means the diversity of life. Agricultural biological diversity includes all components of biological diversity related to food and agriculture. Genetic resources such as crop species, farm animals, fish species, and all untamed animals, forest, grassland and aquatic ecosystems within the scope of agricultural biological diversity. However, with the increasing living organism population, the rate of consumption of natural resources is also increasing. Thereby reducing the genetic diversity for biodiversity. Genetically modified organisms can have some negative consequences There are negative effects that plants may produce in the environment such as uncontrolled pollution, gene leaks and wild hybridization. In this review, the impacts, risks and benefits of genetically modified plants on biodiversity have been evaluated. © 2019, Centenary University. All rights reserved.en_US
