This study was conducted to examine the effect of small-sided training applied after football training during eight weeks on physiological and technical performances. In this study, the data were obtained from 28 male football players, 14 of them in the control group and 14 of them in the experimental group, between the ages of U15 and U16 playing football in Konya Yavuzeli sports club. The experimental group was classified into two groups as six football players (3x3) and eight football players (4x4). While the control group trained football three days a week for eight weeks, the experimental group performed a small-sided training program after the football training three days a week. To determine the physical, physiological, and technical characteristics of the participants in the pre-test and the post-test, the data that are age, height-weight of the body, the number of resting heartbeats, anaerobic power, speed, agility, aerobic capacity, and the technical parameters (i.e., dribbling with passes, bouncing a ball with head and feet, passing, shooting and the technical score) were calculated for each player. As a result of the study, a meaningful improvement was observed in the experimental group regarding agility, technical score, head bouncing, and dribbling with passes (p <0.05) while comparing the control group. Moreover, although there was no significant difference in other aforementioned parameters, it was recognized that more improvement was accomplished in the experimental group. Notable progress was detected in agility, passing, and technical score variables when comparing the 3x3 and 4x4 small-sided training groups in the experimental group with the control group individually (p <0.05). It was determined that the 4x4 group doing small-sided training improved the skills more than the 3x3 group doing small-sided training regarding dkah, maxVO2, speed, agility, shuttle run, RAST peak power, average power, minimum power, and dribbling with passes. Furthermore, the 4x4 group doing small-sided training enhanced the skills more than the control group regarding shuttle run maxVO2, speed, agility, RAST peak power, minimum power, bouncing a ball with head and feet, shooting, dribbling with passes, passing, and the technical score. In conclusion, it is recommended that doing small-sided games in addition to football training are effective in the improvement of physiological and technical performances of young football players, especially in the developmental age; therefore, small-sided training (particularly 4x4) should be practiced as an alternative to football training.
