Sinop is an important province for chestnut production in Turkey. The Anatolian chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) grown in this province is particularly delicious and is named the 'lamb chestnut'. Even though many chestnut trees have died due to chestnut blight disease caused by Cryphonectria parasitica (Murrill) Barr, a monument chestnut tree in Sinop called the 'Padisah Kestanesi', has survived for hundreds of years and is still growing. Due to its importance this tree has been under official protection since 2006. In this study, some traits of the 'Padisah Kestanesi' were examined according to Standards that have been developed in Turkey for Monument trees. The Inventory, selection rules and markings were examined according to Turkish Standards (TS) 13137.en_US
