Üniversite öğrencilerinin biyoteknoloji çalışmalarına yönelik bilgi ve görüşleri

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin biyoteknoloji çalışmaları ile ilgili bilgilerinin ve bu çalışmalara yönelik görüşlerinin araştırılmasıdır. Bu amaçla çalışmaya bir üniversitenin fakültesinden 222 üniversite öğrencisi katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin biyoteknoloji çalışmaları ile ilgili bilgileri ile bu çalışmaları öğrendikleri kaynakları öğrenmek, çalışmaların olası riskleri, faydaları ve kontrolü ile ilgili düşüncelerini belirlemek için bir bilgi ve kavram testi uygulanmıştır. Bilgi ve kavram testinin kavramsal ve istatistik analizi sonucu, bütün öğrencilerin biyoteknoloji hakkındaki bilgilerinin zayıf olduğu, ancak biyoloji bölümü öğrencilerinin, diğer öğrencilerle karşılaştırıldığında daha fazla bilgiye sahip oldukları ve bu bilgilerini de formal ve informal kaynaklardan elde ettiklerini bu çalışmaları kontrol edilmesi gerektiğine inandıklarını göstermiştir.

The objective of this study is to investigate university students‘ knowledge and their ideas related with biological studies. For this purpose 222 university students from three faculties in one university attended in this study. To understand their knowledge regarding biotechnology and to find related resources they learnt about biotechnology, to determine their opinions related with potential risks, utility and control of these studies, in addition to find their knowledge associated with the concepts of these studies, a knowledge and concept test was applied to the students Results of the conceptual and statistical analysis of the knowledge and concepts test showed that students‘ had poor knowlege about biotechnology. However results also indicated that biology students have more knowledge compared to other students and. they apperently gained this knowledge by using both formal and informal resources. In addition students agreed that biotechnology studies should be controlled.
