Abstract

In this article the position of Jerusalem in Israel is discussed in modern times. It is possible to talk about religious, historical and political factors when the issue is assessed in the context of Israel's practices from its establishment until today. During the times when Jews, Christians and Muslims were dominant, the difficulties of living together in Jerusalem were indicated and it was expressed that the Muslim administration is separated from the other in this respect. The fact that commitment of Jewish people Jerusalem is the kingdom of David which is the basis for political capital claims besides it is also understood to be the most sacred place of Judaism because it is the place of the Temple of Solomon. In addition to emphasizing the celestial Jerusalem in Christianity, it is also the reason why Christians continue to keep their importance as a historical place. The claims of Muslims about the sanctity of Jerusalem are evidenced by the first qibla and miracle, and their perceptions are considered together with various accounts. The debates over Jerusalem was not capitalized by Muslims throughout history and that there is no central place of worship is the result of the purpose of the Jews to indicate more rights over Jerusalem. In addition to all these, Israel escalates the arguments about the acquisition of Jerusalem as the capital, which it wants to own because of its symbolic meaning by ignoring various aspects. Every two sides has religious claims about Jerusalem and constitute an indispensable area so it is believed possess religious importance. It is understood that the debate will not end unless different religions are allowed to be together.
