Incidence of Gardnerella vaginalis in patients who has vaginal discharge
Abstract
Sixty patients between 15-45 ages, who had vaginal discharge were investigated for G. vaginalis. G. vaginalis was isolated from 8 (13.3%) of 60 patients. G. vaginalis was detected in 4 (66.6%) of 6 patients with clue cell positivity and 7 (70%) of 10 patients with fishy odor after application of KOH. Vaginal pH was equal to or greater than 4.5 in all culture positive patients. G. vaginalis was detected in 4 (21.1%) of 19 and 4 (9.8%) of 41 (68.3%) patients with homogenous and non homogenous vaginal secretion, respectively.
