Abstract

In this study, we applied two of the local anesthetics articaine and bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia and compared their effects on hemodynamic values, block onset time, duration time and complications. Fifty six ASA I-II, between 18-70 years old patients were included in this study. 1.5 mg/kg articaine and 0.25 mg/kg heavy bupivacaine were given to 27 (Articaine group) and 29 (Bupivacine group) patients respectively. We recorded arterial blood pressures and heart rates at 1st, 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, 30th minutes. We decided sensorial and motor blocks levels for short intervals. Demographic characters, motor and sensorial block onset and duration time, mean arterial pressure, heart rate and complications were compared between two groups. Sensorial and motor block onset times were significantly short with articaine (p < 0.05). Sensorial and motor block duration times were longer in bupivacaine group than articaine group (p < 0.001). No changes in hemodynamic stability was found. There were no statistically significant differences between two groups at mean arterial pressure, heart rate and complications. In conclusion: articaine may be an alternative drug to bupivacaine if the operation times short or middle and postoperative analgesia doesn't required at administrations of spinal anesthesia.
