Abstract

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is an active component of propolis produced by honey bees. Antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties of this compound have been shown with various studies. Because of these features CAPE has been a popular investigational agent in recent years. It is a promising treatment option, especially for the treatment of disorders related to inflammation and increased production of free oxygen radicals, such as tympanosclerosis. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.
