Toplumsal Cinsiyet Stereotiplerinin Kadınlar Günü Reklamları Üzerinden Değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
As an extension of the consumption culture, the contribution of advertisements to the formationof culture is increasing day by day. There is a lot of influence of ads on our choices in life, whetherimportant or not such as which profession we choose and where to go on vacation. This is also thecase for gender perceptions. The aim of the study is to examine the gender stereotypes of womenin terms of Women's Day advertisements and to determine whether there is a change in theseperceptions. Although there are studies focusing on Women's Day advertisements in the literature,it is the original value of the study that these studies address several advertising films and have notdirectly focused on gender stereotypes. Content analysis was used among qualitative researchmethods and 31 commercial films with the highest number of social media interactions wereincluded in the research. Research results are diametrically opposed to the current literatureexcept the sex of voiceover and spokesperson and the age of women characters. In evaluatedadvertisements, women are depicted outside traditional roles in largely established genderstereotypes. From this perspective, it can be said that these ads serve gender equality.
